My new work is the result of a personal search for the line between drawing and painting. I don’t start a piece with the intention of drawing or painting, only with the intention of making an image. Each piece is made from a combination of graphite, oil pastel, charcoal, and acrylic paint. I work on paper: either 20x26in or 26x40in. Drawings are stacked upon each other while being worked on, so gestures and materials are transferred and layered. The tension created by the layers of this chance operation is very important, and helps create images that feel unintentional, dirty, and re-consumed.

I never thought that I would be making the work that I am making now, but knowing that I am one who prefers to follow her heart, I guess it makes sense that I never thought this through. I want to consciously acknowledge an effort of mine to leave my ideas, intentions, and inspirations in my studio. My hope in doing this is that nothing be held above the viewer’s experience. You are now this work’s priority.
